  (My College Essay) 

   What is a story? A story of actual or imagined individuals and events that are given for entertainment is the official definition. Everyone enjoys being entertained. Everyone is attracted to entertainment and a good tale, whether they are watching their favorite movie or reading an enjoyable book. However, I want to do more than merely amuse people. My name is Tafari Beard Jr. I am a 17-year-old filmmaker whose passion is to share undiscovered tales with the world and positively affect it. Others decide to form movements or give speeches to influence others' opinions. But I wish to take a different approach.  

   Nowadays, most of the media consistently use the same narrative. Same actors, same story, same issues, and no representation. Minorities rarely receive the same representation or opportunities as everyone else. The major goal of my storytelling style is to give everyone a voice and allow them to relate to the story. This enables the movie or television show to significantly affect the viewers' outlook and way of life. They can identify with the characters and gain knowledge from them.  

   College is where you go to advance your education, get prepared for adulthood, and get the best training possible for your chosen professional path. All those goals will be carried out, but the main reason I want to go to college is so I can pursue my passion. I've always wanted to be able to show the world something they've never seen before and revolutionize the way movies are made. By using realistic characters and issues, I will succeed in my mission and, as a result, inspire the world to improve itself. Instead of the action or effects, I want people to pay attention to the message and theme.  

   Finally, I wish the issues that my generation and earlier generations have faced do not befall the coming generation. We shouldn't have to worry about whether our family and friends will return home out of fear for them. We shouldn't have to turn to drug use or gun violence to get our problems solved. I shouldn't have to watch the news to see another person who looks like me getting arrested or pronounced dead. The right story, however, has the power to alter how people perceive the world or how they think about it. I intend to bring us together so that we can positively affect one another.  

   To conclude, I believe that a story is the most effective instrument for changing the world. It is not a major event like a protest or rally. It is something personal that allows people to change themselves and others around them. I believe, with the right story, I can change the world.
